Answer# 1   When you decide to treat someone with HBO who has known COPD how do you exlude/include people from treatment who are potential CO2 retainers. In other words, do you perform PFT's prior to initiation of HBOT to check the severity of their illness? Do you get ABGs to assess the degree of CO2 retention? What range of CO2 retention do you consider "safe" or unsafe, as often times we really can't predict how they will react to high 02 concentrations? Lastly, do you ever plan to do a course in wound managment?
Answer# 3   Do any of you distinguished gentlemen have any knowledge in treating cancer patients after chemotherapy or radiation therapy with Hyperbaric Chambers? I have recently visited Russian hospitals and other medical facilities where they claim, that they treat patients after such procedures, and, what is amazing to me, they say, people who participated in such treatments fill so much better and quicker recover from the procedures, than the ones who did not participate in treatments with HBOT.
Answer# 7   Is there a national protocol in regards to the temperature setting on the electrodes of the TCPO2 monitor? For instance, I heard some information that if the electrode is kept on a patient for more than two hours, then the temperature can be minimized from a half to a full degree to prevent burns. We are in the process of revising our policy and procedure manual and we are looking for some sort of national standard in writing that we can obtain. Thank you.
Answer# 16   Is there any difference in the preoperative hyperbaric number of treatments for the Marx protocol between preventative HBO prior to say dental extraction and giving HBO with established ORN prior to debridement? My local dentist would like to know why Marx sometimes proceeded to 60 treatments when they reckon only 20 are needed for revascularization no matter what the condition.
Answer# 29   Is there an indication to repeat prophylactic HBO treatment in a patient with head and neck radiation prior to dental extractions? Maxilla and mandible were in the portal of radiation. Previous HBO treatment was greater than 2 years ago.
